if i could talk with a soldier i'd say ...

seven years ago, our son j.r.k. took part in a grade 5 class unit on respecting remembrance day ...

a local veteran was invited to speak to the class ...

afterwards, the students were to write poems and letters to a fallen soldier ...

the following are our son's young, yet heart swelling words ...

if i could talk with a soldier i'd say ...

i say thank-you because you achieved peace
and gave lives for the gift of freedom and rights.

you fought with proud and brave canadian
soldiers, grand peacekeepers. i thank-you.

if i could i would have helped by your side
and made you live again. your heart was big.
you gave us something we cannot return. you
sacrificed a lot and you made me what i am
today.

j.r.k.

my dear friend katherine shares this closing thought ...

in war, there are no unwounded soldiers.
