to market to market

flea market, that is ...

ever since i can remember, i have been very attracted to old things ... the appeal is incredibly strong ... i crave to be surrounded by vintage and patina ... and not just for show, but as reclaimed purposeful pieces ... it is deeply soothing somehow ...

is it the stories they could tell? is it that they have withstood the test of time?
it actually made me sad, as a little girl, to see something that had been loved once, be discarded and thrown away ... a very tender spot for me ...

i think, too it is just part of the whole being in me that needs to take care of mother earth ... let's r.r.r. when we can...

i am so grateful to those who see the potential and preserve the past while making today's world a better place ...

so, i guess it's natural that i love what ki at junk camp does ... and what carol of carol's time again treasures does at 'what would martha do?' ... of course, the best finds at magnificent knack, the crazy folks at barn house, and for certain layla at the lettered cottage! ... etc, etc ...

this is a wee look at what flea market style magazine has in store for you!

sooooo ... that's why i am pretty darn excited that ki has announced the officially launching of flea market style magazine blog! if you love a good flea market, love to learn how and be inspired to repurpose ... then you know what to do ... ki's button is on my sidebar ...

and now ... here's a peek at a few pieces that i have salvaged and use daily in my studio space ... which is still a work in progress ... which btw, is an old garage we hauled into the yard from down the road and have given a new life (a story for another day!) ...

i found this chair 'bed' at a yard sale ~ i had never seen one quite like it ~ the back slips back and lays down flat ~ add the ottomon and you have a single bed! one very cold winter weekend i covered old couch cushions and brought it to life ... i wonder what name knack would give her ...

i love suitcases for storage ~ i wonder what places these ones have travelled to? they sit atop the base of a baby carriage that once toted my niece and oldest son!
and a rocking chair for someone to curl up in ...

i often use the old battered coffee pot that sits on top of the suitcases as a vase ... and today this perfectly imperfect sunnyflower smiles for us all!
when we moved the studio in, i wanted it tucked right back into the trees, but wanted to do so with as little disturbance to the trees and undergrowth as possible ... and thankfully we only had to remove one pine tree that was dying ... (i still couldn't watch it being taken down) ... but i did save the roots and wove them into the large wreath that hangs above the suitcases ... keeping the tree as close to where it lived as possible ...

every piece has a story ~ this cupboard in the corner was given to me by someone dear years ago and couldn't wait for this space so that it would have a home again ... and it sits on a wooden bench made by my husband when he was a child ... and doesn't everyone use an old crock as a waste dispenser?

another little cupboard that sat forever, waiting for this spot so it can hold my treasures ... more suitcases ... and a picnic basket, boo boo ...

can you believe how this side cupboard that we rescued from our grandad's basement fits so perfectly? sigh ...
oliver likes it too, of course ...

i was never so delighted when my husband came home from a local farm auction with this clock ... more history than we have time for ...

most gratefully, my husband knows what makes my heart tick and has thoughtfully, over the years, lugged things home for me! thanks honey!

one more note ~ it seems that my friend gigi from the magpie's fancy and i were on the same wave length when we titled our postings! visit here for her delightful market visit ...
