flowers for friday ~ orange you glad?

i, for one, am definitely glad it's friday!

i've been a good girl and have been keeping my head down to work ... but i have surely missed visiting in blogland ... only allowing myself a little peek here and there ... just enough to know there is a definite glow of orange happening ... it must be in celebration of autumn beginning to fall around us!

cheers my friends, as summer slips away and things get more orangish ...

remember to click on the image if you want to get closer ...

california poppy ~ eschscholzia californica
cheery no matter how you say it, or whatever stage of blooming ...

tuberous begonia 'nonstop orange' ~ begonia x tuberhybrida
all the brilliant begonias are my mom's favourites!

this sweetie is most often referred to as a thumbelina and grows on a vine, climbing to nod at all who passes by!
this flower is remarkable in the fact that it looks like it is totally flat ... most can't resist poking with their finger to discover with amazement that there is indeed a centre!

my summer is always complete with many varieties of the pansy ~ viola x wittrockiana of the violaceae family

zinnia ~ i didn't keep the tag thingy but there are numerous head spinning varieties!
these larger ones grow into a rainbow of colours ~ happy and hardy!

itty bitty all orange zinnias ...

thanks to swedish botantist anders dahl, the dahlia is one of the showiest of the showiest flowers ...

on a 'glad' note is the mighty gladiolus ~ and from all research, it appears to have significant historical meaning! this beautiful flower was the official symbol of the gladiators from the Roman Empire due to the sword-like leaves ... and wouldn't you know it ~ the latin word 'gladius' means sword ...
this particular bloom of deep salmon colour (close enough to orange) was part of a bouquet given to me as a gift ~ i have so enjoyed as each blossom opens as it reaches the tip of the 'sword'!

the other orange blooms are found here and there in our yard and garden ...

peace,
prairiegirl xo

Orange flowers are one life's great pleasures I think. And I so love that you included a photo of a California poppy! Growing up in the Golden State it brings me straight back to my childhood.
