88

this day in 1921 in a farmhouse near a hamlet called pettapiece, my dear dad was born ... and if he was with us today, he would be a roaring 88!

my father's parents and his oldest sister came to canada from orkney, scotland and he was raised at pettapiece with his two sisters ... lived close by his entire life ... and now rests next to the very farm he was born ...

he had visited his home of ancestry a number of times and in his later years he yearned to go back just one more time ... now i suppose he frequents his beloved orkney and maybe even shares a wee dram with the folks ~ that would be heaven to him ...

it has been said that angels and the hereafter can hear when a harp is being played ... well, today i will be playing my harp for my friends anniversary celebration ... and for certain i will play this song, my recording of 'skye boat song' and more ... for my dad and all souls dear to me ...

happy birthday dad ~

thank you to ben for capturing parts of the highlands and isles of scotland so beautifully in these images ...

This post made my heart melt. The music is absolutely beautiful, as are the images and your thoughts about your father. Have a lovely day.

My eyes are misty just like the coasts of Scotland...

Your music, your words, your heartfelt emotions are so honest, raw, and pure, and I know your Papa is smiling with pride from above as he listens and watches his sweet girl.

Wishing you a very special day filled with comfort from the memories of your father.

Beautifully written! And isn't Ben a fabulous (and well traveled) photographer? I have used his stuff myself. My father-in-law is off-the-boat Scottish. He came here in 1923 at the age of 8. I love to hear the stories. Thanks for sharing.

what a great tribute to your wonderful Dad. He was a dear soul and was so proud of you. Every time i sit on my deck or just even when the wind blows his great chimes are a gentle reminder he is there in spirit.
