if you can breathe

i have kept this tiny card created by artist s. macneill since dancing under the clear blue skies ... under the stars ... and maybe in the rain ... in 1994 at the winnipeg folk fest ...

here in our province of manitoba, canada we have two sensational festivals to get innermost feet tapping ...

and when i say sensational ... i do mean that every sense will be touched in a most delightful way ...

i have lost track of how many years we have been to birds hill park, just north of winnipeg for this epic festival, but each time has been magical and we have always 'found' a new voice with a new song that would simply blow us away ...

if you ever thought of going you would be (as our nephew would describe it after going for his first time) have the time of your life with 40,000 of your closest friends!

yah ... this will be cool ... elvis costello on main stage ...

then a couple of weeks later, just down the road from us will be the brandon folk festival ... a festival celebrating community ... a very intimate musical and art experience under tall shady trees ... featuring artists from far and wide ... but more importantly a gathering of friends closest to our hearts ...

drumming ... dancing ... creating ... as music floats through the air ...

hitting the main stage on friday night will be the internationally sweeping dust poets ... featuring lead singer murray d. evans who just happens to be a good friend and one of the founders of our fair festival ~

if you can breathe ... you can dance ...

These both sound amazing! Wish I could go. I do love Elvis Costello. Here in Lowell, MA, we have a large folk festival at the end of July, and I never miss it--one of the highlights of my summer. What's better than music, food, family, friends, more food, and (hopefully) sunshine. Did I mention food?
Your blog is a joy, as always.

I like the homegrown feel of the second festival and the fact that it's family friendly. Seems charming and original.

"If you can breathe, you can dance." That might have to be my new motto.

i can only imagine how cool it would be to go to your festival ... lowell looks like a very charming spot with tons of history! let me know who you discover this year ... while munching on some great folk fest food of course! (do you have 'whales tails?' ... flat round, almost doughnut texture that you slather with butter and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon? ... oh yum yum)

homegrown was the perfect word to describe the brandon folk fest ... and totally family oriented ... when our boys were little we could just let them run about carefree ...

mmm ... it sure is a motto for all ...
thanks, thanks ...
